Just Dandy

Rover deals with pain, injury and illness in basically the same way.  He starts out hoping that if he ignores it long enough it will just go away and if that clearly won't work he will actively hide it.  There are probably several reasons for this.  For one he is just plain stubborn and doesn't like anyone to see him as weak, it deminishes his image as the big, brave adventurer.  He also hates to sit still and if he acknowledges that there is something wrong with him chances are someone's going to start telling him what to do and that will usually be to lie down and take it easy.  And last but certainly not least he has an unhealthy dread of doctors.  He would never admit that, of course.  He always excuses the fact that he will never set foot in a medical facility by saying that he has 'better things to do'.  Dr. Cloud is the only doctor he feels even marginally at ease around but will litterally hide from him when it's time for a checkup.  

If one can actually get him to BE a patient he is probably the worst one a doctor could have.
