While in Fix-It-Felix jr. 2013 Vanellope overhears the new Felix, Junior for short, hatching a plot not only to steal the original's hammer but to bring down the entire 8-bit game! She runs to Ralph explaining the danger Felix is in from his vendetta holding double. They grab Calhoun, explaining the situation to her on the way to find Felix.
When they tell him what's going on he simply can't believe that a Fix-It could be anything but the soul of honor and is certain that they are simply overreacting or that possibly Vanellope misunderstood what she heard.
"Now, Little Missy." Felix shook a scolding finger at the little racer. "He would never do a thing like that."
Vanellope's dark eyebrows came together and her hands balled into fists. "I KNOW what I heard!"
"I'm sure you heard SOMETHING. But a Fix-It is the soul of honor. It's in our code to fix things not break things."
"Listen to the kid, Fix-It." Calhoun instisted. "The guy's a slimeball."
"Come on, Felix." Ralph gestured with his two giant hands. "We all know there's something wrong with the guy. Why can't you see it?"
The little handyman frowned and shoved both hands on his hips. "Frankly, I am downright riled at this uncouth and unaccommodating behavior. Now I am aware that my brother hasn’t exactly taken a shine to me but that is no justification for these cockeyed accusations. These folks were just plugged in. They need our support not our suspicion. I really thought you all were better than that.”
~ And this is about as mad as Felix can possibly get. And he feels terrible about it later. To anyone else it was just a mild scolding, but to Felix he feels he, heaven forbid, lost his temper! ~ Here's a few other pics that go with this story: [link][link][link][link][link][link]
Here's a little more backstory: When Mr. Litwack announces that he is getting a brand new 1213 versian of Fix-It-Felix jr. Felix is beside himself. He just can't wait to meet the new characters he considers 'kin'. But despite the arcade owner's overheard promise to keep the 'retro' game as well, many of the other Nicelanders are concerned about being shown up.
And the new game is indeed impressive. Niceland is no longer one apartment building. It's an entire city with slums, suburbs, a business district and even a bridge. And detail is everywhere, from random trash on the street to the seams on characters clothes.
Many more characters are involved as well. A second player has been added for the female gamers, a sister to Felix named 'Construction-Kate'. And Felix's father has been added as a non-playable character who can give information and new tools to the player. Ralph, too, has been given a family. Much like Bowser's kids in Mario, Ralph's wife and kids do his bidding in wrecking the city.
But it isn't a hunky dory, happy-go-lucky world like the Ralph and Felix we know have created. After the arcade closes Felix 2013 is no longer the good guy who's only out to help people. He is very much the boss of his game and with his sister by his side keeps tabs on the whole city.
Of course, our quartet of a welcome party doesn't know this when they show up at the new game with friendly greetings.
Felix is shocked to see his dad, a man he has never really seen but is programmed to miss dearly. His backstory has always told him that his father gave him his hammer on his deathbed. So to see him now...even a new versian of him get's the handyman a little choked up. The old man is quite happy to invite him into the family, as his other boy hasn't exactly lived up to the moral code set out for him.
The new Felix doesn't take this well. For one thing he simply can't stand that there is an 'outdated' and clearly inferior versian of himself. And what makes it worse HIS father seems to like him. And that hammer! In the new game the golden hammer is the prize for winning the game and is locked up in the game's code and is only released if someone wins. That this old, dinosaur of a character that has the audacity to impersonate him just carries that hammer around drives him nuts.
So. Why not kill two birds with one stone? He reasons. Get rid of that embarassment of a game AND get that hammer at the same time.
Ralph and Sgt. Calhoun get a bit suspicious early on. But Felix just can't believe that his new 'family' could possibly do him harm.
I've got to say I love your art style. I like how still managed to captured the standard Disney style which is extremely difficult to achieve.
I have to know, was this story ever written? The characters are strong and fun. I love the character development of Felix as we can see another side of him with the 2013 Felix. The introduction of Felix's family as support characters is genius, I like how you explain their inclusion in the context of the game which is important and also interesting. I think the idea that the magic hammer is a reward at the end of the game is a great way to create conflict between Felix and Junior. I wonder if Felix Sr. refusal to give it to Junior for being selfish isn't an added point of contention.
I'd actually like to play Fix-it-Felix Jr. 2013, but for the time being I'm going to call it: "Fix-it-Felix Jr.- Ralph's Revenge".
I hope that you write it soon. Looking forward to it!
Thanks so much! I love Disney's style. It's so fun to work with.
No I haven't actually written this story yet. I'm not sure if I will get around to it or not. But I'm having fun with these pictures and chunks of plot.
I really wanted to give Felix parents but they didn't seem like the kind of characters that would be players, but I couldn't put them in the game with no purpose. I have to admit I was happy with Mother's pie idea.
Yes! The fact that Fix-It Sr. clearly doesn't think Junior is living up to his 'nice guy' code, and how quickly he takes to Felix is certainly a hot spot. Junior has no respect for his father but he also doesn't like him paying attention to someone else. ESPECIALLY an 'infirior' version of him. He really isn't much more than a spoiled kid.
'Ralph's Revenge', I like that. Great game title!!!
Well I'll defiantly be following eagerly to see anymore pictures and chunks of plot.
I like that you can visualize the parents in their respective shops in the Niceland over-world map, giving Felix and Katie upgrades for tools. I love the concept because it works for a game, which is integral to keep it in the same universe of the film. That's why I'd love to see the story because it blends so well, I'd almost be disappointed if this wasn't "Wreck-it-Ralph 2."
The other amazing thing you've managed is to parallel current game trends to revitalize characters in a new fashion. When you compare this to any Nintendo sequel it's genius that you drew those parallels.
I'm glad you like 'Ralph's Revenge.' I think it's a title that a game company would use. It sets this game up as a sequel to the first without making it a direct sequel, like "Super Mario Sunshine."
I'd love to see more art of Construct-it-Katie if you're going to do more story chunks. I find her addition as a player two so intriguing. What is her character and motivations? Is she a Luigi character who's sick of Felix's shadow? Or is she only following Junior because she's the player 2?
This looks really interesting! Did you ever finish the comic? It looks fascinating! I really like the posing you've done for each of the characters. It must have been really fun making up the language for Felix. Calhoun is my faovurite.
If you should ever post the comic, I'd love to read it (and comment on it of course). The way Felix talks makes me feel all warm and happy inside like a fresh slice of pie.

Thank you! Felix is a lot of fun to write for. Just LOVE how he talks.
